Computer Essentials (755070)

This competency-based course is designed to prepare students with basic computer fundamentals using the latest software in Operating Systems, Word processing, Spreadsheets, and Presentations. Emphasis will be placed on virtual communication platforms such as Email, Zoom, and other online applications. Additionally, this course will include soft skills, employability skills, job search, and resume preparation. (90 hrs)

Prerequisites: A minimum reading level as measured by the CASAS GOALS Reading comprehension test.

 

Microcomputer Applications/1: Word Processing (753582) 

Learn technical instruction and practical experience in basic computer operation. It includes an introduction, safety and ergonomics, computer ethics and security, computer hardware and media storage, computer software, operating systems, and virus protection, word processing introduction, file management, the Internet, editing, formatting, graphics, borders, and shading, themes, styles, and templates, tables, citations and references, mail merge, and employability skills and resume preparation. (90 hrs)

Prerequisites: A minimum reading level as measured by the CASAS GOALS Reading comprehension test.

 

Microcomputer Applications/2: Spreadsheet (753584)

Learn technical instruction and practical experience in the applications of computer programs. It includes introduction, safety and ergonomics, spreadsheet introduction, printing, editing and formatting a worksheet, formulas, charts, and employability skills and resume preparation. (80 hrs)

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of Microcomputer Applications/1: Word Processing or equivalent Computer Challenge Test. 

 

Microcomputer Applications/3: Presentations (753586)

Learn technical instruction and practical experience in presentation programs. It includes an introduction, safety and ergonomics, presentation introduction, working with slides and templates formatting a presentation, pictures, objects, and illustrations, transitions, animations, and multimedia, presentation delivery, printing a presentation, and employability skills and resume preparation. (80 hrs)

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of Microcomputer Applications/2: Spreadsheet or equivalent Computer Challenge Test.

 

Microcomputer Applications/4: Database Management (753588)

Learn technical instruction and practical experience in database management. It includes an introduction, safety and ergonomics, database introduction, creating a database, tables, forms, queries, reports, printing a database, employability skills and resume preparation. (80 hrs)

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of Microcomputer Applications/3: Presentations or equivalent Computer Challenge Test. 

 

Microcomputer Applications/5: IC³ Certification Preparation (753592)

This competency-based course is the last in a sequence of five designed for computer operation. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in fulfilling the requirements of the Internet and Computing Core Certificate (IC³) Program, a global training and certification program for students and employees who want to excel in a digital world. IC³ Certification consists of three core certification exams: Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, and Living On-line. (75 hrs)

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of Microcomputer Applications/1, 2, 3, and 4.

 

Maintenance Supervisor: Computer Essential Practices (795065)

This competency-based course is designed to prepare students with basic computer fundamentals using the latest software in Operating Systems, word processing, and spreadsheets. (60 hrs)

Prerequisites: None

 

Typist: Keyboarding (715088)

This competency-based course is an introduction to proper keyboarding techniques, mastery of alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys, and fundamental skill development of speed and accuracy. This course includes an introduction to safety and ergonomics, computer hardware, software/app, and operating system, alphabetic keys, number and symbol keys, timed writing, formatting, employability skills, resume preparation, and a final evaluation. (75 hrs)
