High School Equivalency Exam (HiSET)
What is a High School Equivalency (HSE) Credential?
The High School Equivalency Exam is a certificate that means that, through testing, you can demonstrate you have the same skills and knowledge as a high school graduate. It is not a high school diploma. Before taking the test, we highly recommend enrollment into a HiSET Preparation class. Please see class schedule for times.
Who Can Take a High School Equivalency Exam?
High school equivalency (HSE) exams are designed for out-of-school youth and adults without a high school diploma. Eligibility requirements are: • Age: Minimum age is 17 years + 10 months. • Residency: Proof of California residency must be verified, both at the time of registration and before admittance to the testing room. • Identification: You must verify your identity and age with current photo identification when you register and before admittance to the testing room. The identification must include your name, birth date, signature, photograph and address. Acceptable identification includes: driver’s license or identification card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, military identification, identification card issued by the United States or a foreign government, passport issued by the United States or a foreign government, tribal identification card.
Test Schedule and Fees
Due to the current COVID-19 closures, on-site testing is not available at this time. During non-COVID closure Harbor OC is an official HiSET test site. • On-site testing is done every Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Dates subject to change. • Students must register in the Harbor Occupational Center main office, no later than 72 hours before a scheduled test. • The fee for computer-based testing is $150.00/Subtest $25.00. • We offer the HiSET in English and Spanish.
