Diesel Mechanic

The Diesel Technology program will prepare students to work as service technicians in dealer service departments, diesel engine repair facilities and medium/heavy truck repair facilities.

AUTO TECH: DIESEL/ 1 (799055)
This competency based course is one in a series of three courses that will provide students with technical instruction and practical experience with diesel engines.  Instruction includes classroom and workplace policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations. Emphasis is placed on diesel engine diagnosis and repair. (150 hrs)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Auto Tech: Engine Repair (79-90-73) or instructor’s permission.

AUTO TECH: DIESEL/ 2 (799057)
Emphasis is placed on the following areas of diesel engine diagnosis and repair: lubrication, cooling, air induction, exhaust, fuel supply and electronic fuel management and engine brakes. The course also covers the proper uses, maintenance, and storage of diesel repair toll and equipment, the effective use of service manuals and computer based information systems. (150 hrs)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Auto Tech: Diesel/1 (79-90-55) or instructor’s permission.

AUTO TECH: DRIVE TRAIN (799059)
Emphasis is placed on diesel drive train diagnosis and repair: clutch, ABS air brakes; drive axle, fifth wheels, transmission, truck & transport refrigeration. (150 hrs)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Auto Tech: Diesel/2 (79-90-57) or instructor’s permission.

** Separate costs for books, exams, supplies, preparation, certifications and/or licenses provided by outside vendors may be incurred. Once a Certificate of Completion is earned in a course, that course cannot be repeated.
