MEDICAL ASSISTANT
The Medical Assistant (MA) Program focuses on the skills related to the practice of patient care. Our competency-based program provides students with the necessary skills to work in clinical settings such as general practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, after hours care, and specialty practices in the ambulatory care settings. Students are instructed on physical patient exam, electrocardiography (EKG), administration of medication, injections, venipuncture, nutrition, vital signs and medical terminology. Students receive training to take the National Certification Exam. (500 hrs)
 
  • Students will take part in a clinical externship.
  • Students must be 18 years or older.
  • Must possess a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, GED or HiSET.
  • Students must have proof of a NEGATIVE MANTOUX TEST OR NEGATIVE CHEST
  • Students are required to provide proof of completing the HEPATITIS B vaccine series (3 injections)
  • Students will need a Physical Exam and proof of immunizations.
  • Students will also need a clear background check.
 

Prerequisites: Highly recommend completion of MOA/1: Medical Terminology (76-15-50) course. Enrollment requires a 8.0 reading level as measured by the CASAS GOALS test, at least 18 years of age, and evidence of vaccination for: measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B series, rubeola, varicella, tuberculosis clearance, and a physical  examination form declaring the student to be in good health without restrictions

** Separate costs for books, exams, supplies, preparation, certifications and/or licenses provided by outside vendors may be incurred. Once a Certificate of Completion is earned in a course, that course cannot be repeated.
